Dog Named Emma Becomes Internet Star After Her Owner’s Sweet Idea Lets Neighbors Greet Her by Name
Every day, people walking through a quiet neighborhood would smile and wave at a friendly dog who loved peeking out from a window screen. In a viral Reddit post: A lovable dog named Emma can be seen poking her head through the mesh of a window screen, greeting everyone who passes by. Her owner explained that Emma absolutely loved the attention but became even more excited whenever someone said her name. The only problem was that no one knew what it was.
“I always hear people say ‘hi doggy’ from my bedroom, but they don’t know her name. I wanted to change that,” the post read. So, the owner came up with an adorable solution, a sign placed under the window with Emma’s name printed in big, bold letters. From that moment on, cheerful voices calling “Hi Emma!” began echoing through the street each day, bringing smiles to both the pup and her neighbors.
Emma’s sweet routine quickly went viral. The post received tens of thousands of upvotes and hundreds of comments from people touched by the story. “Dogs love hearing their name more than just about any other word,” one commenter wrote. “This is probably the highlight of her day.” Another person added, “This got me all teary-eyed and smiling. Experts at PetMD note that dogs truly do recognize their names along with many other familiar words. Most canines understand around 150 human words, while especially intelligent dogs can recognize as many as 250. More importantly, dogs respond to the tone and emotion in a person’s voice, helping them connect with feelings even when they don’t fully understand the language.
A family in Seattle dropped their dog, a black lab named Mitch, off at a local kennel one day, not expecting anything unusual to occur. But Mitch’s stay at the kennel ended with an employee brutally kicking and punching him – to the point of death.
