Here we go:Tank: 55gal, tropical community, 2+ years old, fully cycled, synthetic deco, sand/gravelInhabitants: red spotted severum, tapajos geophagus, blue acara, 14x black phantom tetra, 3x gold panda molly, 3x marbled molly, 2x black molly, 1 sunburst platyWhen will I learn to quarantine? Geez…About three days after introducing some newbies to my tank, my severum started displaying a few specks.I immediately started with a course of super ick; had two cases in this tank back when it was un/newly cycled and it worked like a charm. This was a particularly bad case tho…I followed the directions straight up on the first go round. Meh. Not so much.So on round two, I cleaned the tank, changed the water, salted, slowly raised the temp to 84 F. This strain of ick overwhelmed every fish in the tank so quickly and so aggressively that I decided to dose every day.On day six I did a 30gal change/clean, added QuickStart, added the correct amount of replacement salt, then started a five day long course of maintenance doses of pima- and melafix and seachem paraguard.After that, 20gal change, no meds, no salt, back to 80 F, observation period time… all good!So…. thereâs so much info out there on ick, some hogwash, some useful, some a little of both. Definitely check out as much as you can. Iâm sure Iâm off base on some things too, but from what I gathered, I employed a very effective method of treating an aggressive form of infection in otherwise healthy fish in a healthy environment. With zero fatalities. Had some unhappy fish (the severum took it the hardest…) but nobody was ever really on the brink. And this is the worst outbreak Iâve ever seen.A few notes:The higher temp will speed up the lifecycle of the parasite, doing two things: 1) gets that little salt spec off your friend quicker 2) exposes the parasiteâs vulnerable stage to the meds.The salt will reduce stress, promote slime coat, detoxify nitrates, and mess around a little bit with the parasites..05-.10mg/L malachite green (benzaldehyde green, Victoria blue, whatever they wanna call it…) is the efficacy dilution. The directions put it at about .068. 1mL super ick:1gal waterAt 80 F or so, the four stages of the icks lifecycle last about 24hr each. Only two of those are vulnerable to medication. The other two are 1) that white spec thatâs actually an impenetrable shell, housing thousands of Protozoa digging into your fish, and 2) another of those shells on the tank surfaces replicating close to 10,000 times…Ick parasites are not always present in your water. Theyâre invasive and have to be introduced into your aquarium from an outside source. Which is why quarantine tanks should be used…Once the tank is infested, all microbes must be killed or there will be recurrence. Untreated ick has 100% mortality rate.Only salt your tank during disease outbreak. Freshwater fish donât do well exposed to salt over long periods of time.Whoever tells you to treat ick with ONLY heat and salt (provided weâre not talking about fish who are happy at 90 F – the temperature where ick stops being able to replicate and therefore dies off) is either a fish whisperer or insane. Youâre not the former and donât wanna be the latter.Summation:1) Clean the tank2) Salt the tank3) Raise the temp to 84 F4) Follow super ick cure directions as they read FIRSTNothing is guaranteed when caring for a closed ecosystem. So change and test your water regularly and feed the guys fresh, high quality, varied food products. These two things are the most important things to do in order to keep your fish rad. Like changing your oil and using good gas….

You will likely need multiple bottles depending on tank size and need to do multiple treatments. Water does turn blue temporarily with medication. Some of the fish started to show progress with treatment and a couple got worse.

These are the 8 oz size and works so well. I had a couple of fish with Ick and ran out of the small bottle I had. It also has a bonus use. We had gotten some mystery snails and unfortunately they had parasite worms inside their shells. By the time we discovered them, there were hundreds on eggs on the sides and front of the tank. When I treated my tank for the Ick, it also wiped out all of the worms and eggs so I didn’t have to empty my tank and scrub it down to get rid of the eggs and adult worms. It save a lot of work.

Generally I don’t write reviews. But this product made me write a review.My tank was affected with ich and it started with Tiger Barb’s and spread to other fishes. I was late in finding out about ich.Ordered this API liquid and it arrived on time. 5 stars to seller. Used it as per instructions and repeated it after 48 hours. Ich is gone. Saved all my fishes.
