Recommend for any pet owner – easy and quick peace of mind
Highly recommend for anyone who has pets or children. From working in vet med, Iâve firsthand seen the dangers of blue algae with dogs specifically. Peace of mind for my dogs
I used this kit to test my pond that had signs of blue green algae. I had treated the pond but wanted to make sure it was safe for my dogs to swim.I would give it 5 stars, but the cost is prohibitive and the directions donât say if you should test the water that has the slime on it or in a clear area.

Great product for dog safety

Blue green algae test works
I was able to confirm blue green algae and now will not let my dog near the water. Â The test was easy to use, and confirmed my suspicion. The algae is very toxic for dogs and can be fatal. Â The price of the test was worth it for me. Â The process is similar to Covid tests and the red line clearly indicates presence of toxins.Â

Better safe than sorry!
I used this to test my pond in early summer. I was worried that my animals would get sick. The test was negative, thank God! My animals have been swimming and drinking out of the pond all summer since I tested it. So, it was accurate and gave me peace of mind!

So simple and easy to use can save your child’s or dogs life, and its inexpensive and only takes 15 minutes for peace of mind. I use it every time we go camping by water or even for a day trip. I live in oregon and yes we have clean water but better safe than sorry.

I thought it was five test strips but “5Strands” is actually the name of the company. This kit only has one test. It is a little pricey for one test but I’d rather that than a sick animal.

I have used this test a number of times this summer, to monitor water quality in a pond with confirmed cyanobacteria blooms. It is fast and easy to use and does give you some peace of mind. However I don’t believe the test detects lipopolysaccharides – also a product of cyanobacteria blooms. I started getting a short-lived itch whenever pond water came into contact with my skin, where Phormidium was lab-confirmed to be present – despite the test being negative for toxins. I still believe the test as wildlife are still healthy, but noticeably birds and even deer have started avoiding their favourite water hole.
