Goodbye and goodnight –
I opened a can so you donât have to
Bought this along with dried carrots, onions and split peas for my long term pantry split pea soup. (Wish they just did their own brand of mirepoix). The Instant Pot will be perfect to cook it.I love the one-item ingredient list, ease of smaller item storage and long shelf life. The best by date for the one I got is Aug 11, 2045. But when shaken it seemed to have a lot of space inside. I was worried about the âveggie powderâ I had been hearing about with other companies. Rather than having a big surprise when it was most needed I decided to try it now and if OK replace it when the price dropped. No worry. When opened, the heady sweet smell of celery met me. It was 2/3 full, amost no powder. The desiccated ~3x10mm particles (avg) didnât increase in size much when hydrated but definitely was celery, good enough, with taste, fiber and texture to jazz up my soup if TSHTF.

Great for redundancies and recipes.
Just as shown. Note these are dried not freeze dried. I put some through my grain mill and it worked nicely to make the bits smaller for my specific recipes. Flavor when in soups etc seems to be just as good as fresh.

Happy with purchase
Product arrived in tact. Heard air escape when I opened the can, proof it was airtight. It was easy to open by using a cheap handheld can opener. It filled a 1/2 gallon mason jar and a quart sized one too. It settles so the jars were fuller and I suspect that’s why many people are claiming to not have much in their cans.I dehydrate food, so I am familiar with how it behaves. It doesn’t take away from the amount. If I gave that jar a shake, it would be full to the rim again.I don’t suggest too much shaking because you’ll end up creating powder because the food is brittle. It had barely any powder, maybe a teaspoon in the can from shipping. It does seem to have some stems included in the package. Wasn’t too much to where I wouldn’t recommend. It isn’t something that I suspect will be any type of uniform pieces once reconstituted. It will be more useful as just throwing a pinch in soup or a casserole.I deducted a star because I can’t really rate the taste, but it smells good and looks doable. It looks like any celery that I’ve dehydrated personally. It was a good value for the money. I’d have to run my dehydrator for 2 weeks daily to get close to that amount. I’d have to buy the celery, prepare, wear and tear on the dehydrating machine and pay the electricity. Some things make better sense to just buy. Other companies I looked into had similar prices for the amount. Many people aren’t just buying the celery, they’re buying the can.Be sure to not rely on the can after opening. It blocks out light, but that’s about it. Move the food to a jar and put a desicant pack inside. Vacuum seal it if you can.

pantry staple emergency or not
Some Augason Farms stuff I buy as emergency food, some I buy for regular use. If I can price out something in this form that is same price or less than other forms, then I go with this as it can be stored away or kept in my working pantry. I use a lot of Augason Farms, and I’ve been pleased with this.Dehydrated celery is a great addition to the pantry. Sometimes I dont have fresh, or I have fresh that went bad, or I dont find it in the store, or what is there looks bad, or price is way outside my budget. Having some dried celery tucked away in my pantry really helps stretch the budget and brings value to my time.I keep the recipe trifecta on hand, “mire poix”: celery, carrot, and onion. I keep fresh, frozen, and dried on hand. Usually used in recipes that will help rehydrate these foods no problem. Celery is very easy to rehydrate. I usually just add to the cooking process and its good to go.Food scarcity is legit, so if you can stock up when items are on sale, then I recommend to do so. Consider it insurance.FYI: food and such are sold based on weight, not volume. There is 1lb, 2 oz packed in this #10 can (that reads, “number ten” not “ten pound”- it is a size of can). Using a #10 can means that it provides uniformity among storage. Emergency supplies are packed for long term and are packed to stack. They also float. They can be repurposed. Even if one gets a dent, contents are still good (unless and actual hole, which is not likely to happen). The food will not be filled to the brim, and also.. food settles after packing.

Dried sliced celery
The wife and I like to keep dried foods on hand. She doesn’t always have the time to dehydrate as much as she used to, so we buy them when needed. For us it’s a good value. And it doesn’t spoil. She likes to make her own dried stuffing mix instead of buying small boxes. Uses the dried celery and onions to make it with. Once it’s cooked the taste and smell is awesome. This is good in soup. There are those times when we don’t want to leave the house to get a few odd ingredients and this functions well. Stores well.

Tastes great & works in recipes
I got this to be able to make meals in a jar for when I’m working outside the home. I also put together meals in a jar to sell at my local farmers market and so far everything is been fantastic. I highly recommend this brand. The cost was reasonable and the contents were fresh.
