Okay for a beginner
Anyone beyond the most complete beginner would probably find this book too brief in its description of most the health cnoditions covered but the book does provide a interesting flow chart feature that allows readers to narrow down possible causes to many different symptoms. Also included in the back is a handy guide to many different medical procedures and techniques. However, as stated above, the information provided for many of the conditions is often too brief and while many entries are accompanied by photographs, illustrations, and diagrams, many are unclearly or even incorrectly labeled (as in the diagram of the lower leg that labels the superficial flexor tendon as the carpal check ligament). Also some diagnostic and progronostic advice is questionable though the difference may come from the fact that this was written by an English writer and I am an American reader. I refer specifically to the recommended deworming schedule of only once a year which is a practice that has been largely abandoned here in the States. Also the author implys COPD horses may be cured but as the name states, it is a chronic condition which can only be managed, not cured. Overall this book is okay for those who only want a modicum of information though hopefully they will have a mentor of some kind who can explain some of the more questionable information in the book.
