Keeps the wrens singing
‘Ever have a wren come knocking to ask for breakfast? I have been feeding mealworms to urban songbirds for roughly a decade and even the neighbors have remarked about how many more birds seem to enliven my yard in our little neighborhood. If I were raising chooks again, a larger quantity could be had for less but this has worked out to the best value for songbird feeding. Worms are usually good sized and mostly intact–other brands have sent me bags of worm crumbs rather than dried whole worms. My only criticism is with the packaging’s zip function as the “zipper” inevitably pulls away from the packaging after repeated opening & closing if the zipper was not already detached upon receipt. This is a relatively minor trouble easily remedied with a dedicated “worm jar” to decant the bags into. Ultimately storing the dried worms in a hard container helps them remain whole longer and not be repeatedly smashed every time their container is handled. The company might want to look into their packaging, though.I initially began providing mealworms for the Carolina wrens that regularly nest in our hedgerow yet would leave our seed feeder empty-beaked. After a few months it became clear that even our seed lovers were happy for the worms when they had hatchlings to feed. Occasionally a red bellied or downy woodpecker will light on the ground to get at the worms if I let their suet run out and 2024 saw wood thrushes paying our meal worms a few visits for the first year ever. Some of our migratory winter visitors only go for the worms and not seed and even the squirrels start snacking on worms as the temperatures drop.

Could These Become a Future Super Food?
This rating covers 3 areas, value, flavor and freshness. First, value; Compared to those little containers I have purchased in the past, these worms are a great deal. I chuckled at the second rating area. Now I have been told mealworms are considered by some to be a high protein alternative for humans, but not for this human. So how do I rate the flavor without tasting the worms? Well give some to my friend Steve then ask him what he thinks about the flavor! So I did and he didn’t stop eating the things until he had consumed every worm I had offered to him. Without him saying a word I concluded the flavor must be very good. (Steve is a box turtle.) The 3rd rating area is freshness. Well Steve’s voracious behavior provided a hint for this area, but knowing a thing or 2 about mealworms, their appearance, scent, and hygiene (Not dusty or crumbly) helped me conclude that these are some fresh worms! Sometimes these ratings include a statement regarding recommending to a friend. As you already know, I did, and Steve Loved them. If you are a human reading this, don’t eat the worms. “Human” is not included on the list of creatures these are intended for, yet.

The bluebirds can’t get enough of these
Wild birds seem to love these, even though they’re dried. They can empty a tray of these in about 90 minutes.

Infested
I purchased this several times before and it is good value and my birds love it. This time, I have infestation of green beetles in this bag among the mealworms. I have no clue what to do with it now. I canât trash it becauseI am afraid the beetles will destroy trees in my neighborhood. Keep it in the bag- they will start breeding.

Worth the money
Wild birds love it!!! Feed a Mom and Dad Blue Easterns while tending to their babies in the nest. When the babies grew and flew away from the nest. Both parents and babies returned to the feeder for worms.
