NICE, STURDY SHELF FOR RAT CAGE
I purchased this wooden shelf for a rat cage that I was setting up for some new rescue boys I got. Since the cage I got was the Amazon Basics Add-On cage, there was a lot of open space to fill up to allow the boys to get to their hammocks. This shelf was a perfect solution. Itâs nice and sturdy and does not move once installed. If installing on a cage with the wider bar spacing though, (1 inch) you need to use larger washers than what comes with the shelf. I purchased a box of 100 fender washers that are 1/4, 2â and they work perfectly.

Perfect!
Was exactly what I was looking for to put in cage for my geriatric mynah bird. She’s 15yrs old and starting to have issues grasping her perches of different sizes. Needed so platforms for her to hop/land safely instead of plummeting down to the bottom of the cage. She absolutely LOVES these and even lays to rest on them. Very well made. Order came quicker than expected so very happy about that as I was fixing her “new” cage up that day.

Nice and sturdy
My chinchilla is VERY large. He fills this shelf when he stands/plays on it. It handles his size and weight very well! But it is too small for him to sleep on. Super easy to install

If I could give it 3 and 1/2 stars I would
The reason for my headline and 4 star rating is as follows:1) Washers: although large if you have 1″x2″ openings on your cage getting both washers to catch and hold was difficult (would be solved with slightly larger washers)2) Shelf size looks okay, I’m using it for rats so it should be okay for them but I’d think for a large adult chinchilla this shelf would actually be two small.3) very difficult to get installed when doing it by yourself if you have a larger cage (however this really can’t be put as a negative towards the product but felt it needed to be included for reference for other people).The product came in a timely manner with all hardware included needed to install and the board was not damaged at all.

Amazing customer service
When I order the ledge the washers got a little bent during transit. I got an email saying asking how I liked the item and I mentioned the washers so maybe they can ship it with the washers in their own bag to help avoid them getting bent and they sent me an email back saying that they would send me another one and I could keep the original. I was very surprised I was just trying to offer a suggestion the ledge works perfectly however the went the extra mile to correct even the smallest inconvenience. The ledge is very sturdy. Extremely pleased.

Quick way to add a new ledge for our Ratties
Our 2 boy ratties were interested immediately and love having their new vantage point. They weigh over a pound each and very often, both are on this wooden shelf with no problems. They fit and the wingnuts are holding fast and secure. I was thinking this is a little overpriced but it is sturdy so I’m pretty okay with the price now.

Wouldnât recommend for anything bigger than a rat
First of all it came broken. The screw that goes into the board had completely come out. Thankfully the hole wasnât stripped so I was able to screw in back in by hand. Secondly installed itâs pretty flimsy. We have a rabbit hutch with chicken wire so that may be a factor however my one year old chinchilla sits on it and it bows downward. Our six month old chinchilla sits on it just fine. So wouldnât recommend for any pet bigger than a rat.

I ordered this for my bird to give him an additional platform on the outside of his cage and honestly I was disappointed with the quality.For $13.99 you are better off to go to your local hardware store and buy the components and assembled this yourself using untreated pine (you could make quite a few for the same price). The board itself is made from thin wood (roughly 1/4″ thick) and the wood was not sanded and the edges were rough (I ended up sanding it myself as it would have risked splinters for my bird or any other small animal).Additionally, they only provided two washers total for the installation even though it fastens with two bolts. These platforms work best with two washer per bolt, one inside the cage and one outside to keep the platform steady on the bars. Thankfully I had extra washers laying around that I could use.I recommend either making a platform yourself, or buying a different product. I’ve bought other wooden pet platforms from amazon and in stores that were much higher quality than this for the same price.
