Really nice compact scratcher!
One of our cats is a vertical scratcher, and he prefers jute over all other materials. (Yes, cats have preferences. Ignore those preferences at your furniture’s peril.) I took a chance on this post because I was tired of stubbing my toe on our freestanding cat scratcher, and I love the aesthetics of rubberwood. This is a thoughtfully designed product that minimizes visual hardware, leaving a clean look. The wooden end caps are routed to hold the brackets in place extra securely, but the routing ends up completely invisible. It’s the kind of design detail that feels high end despite a very affordable price tag.Even better, these posts do *not* have a terrible smell like some jute products, which meant I could install this right away instead of waiting for smelly posts to air out. Yay!Due to our tall baseboards and our cat’s preference to scratch higher up on previous posts, I took some liberties with the installation. Both L brackets are “hugging” the top post section, and the bottom post section is connected below the rubberwood disc (that was an end cap, but got repurposed as a spacer). I actually think this would work just as well for us if we removed the bottom post altogether, in which case we would keep the second scratcher on hand as backup.Overall, I’m pleased with it. It gives a clean look, offers optionality for installation, and keeps my cat from eyeing the nearby sofa. I will definitely consider more from this brand in the future.

Solid and a space saver
This is smaller around than I expected but itâs great for the area I wanted to use it in. It was easy to put together and mount to the wall. It probably took me 20 minutes. So far my cat wonât touch it, but I think thatâs because sheâs not used to scratching anything on the wall. There was no bad smell, it just smells like natural fiber rope. I gave it four stars because the roping is fairly thin. But It feels sturdy and like it will stand up to the cat⦠should she ever decide to use it.

Cat loves it!
It took a little finesse and an extra look at the pictures in the instructions to put together correctly… but it was pretty easy, and I love that they included wood screws, because that’s what I needed in my case. As you can see, my kitten likes it! I got the 2-pack, so the other one will go on the next level, and then at the top shelf has a whole cat tower with a scratch post attached… hopefully the carpet is in the clear now. Time will tell if it holds up, but it is definitely secured to the wall. It doesn’t take away from decor, adds some pretty texture. There was no odor in my package at all. Feels sturdy and doesn’t stick out so far that it would be bumped into by the humans. I love it.

Strong kerosene smell
Ok, but horrible, very strong kerosene smell because of how they processed the jute. It’s insanely strong to the point that I don’t think I’ll be able to tolerate these in my home until they’ve aired out for a few months. Pretty disappointing.
