Affordable unit
I like this water quality monitor from RIVESAB for quick ballpark readings, but I would invest in something a little more complete for actual lab work or to finally verify a water quality issue in your home. I do also like the many categories that it measures: pH, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), Salinity & finally Temperature. This is all accomplished at a pretty good price point as well.I didn’t set up a comparable test metric as I don’t have access to a professional laboratory quality pH meter (e.g. the ones with the detachable, long glass probes). So, I only can assume that the supplied calibration solution premixes are accurate to start. Anyone with any sort of lab experience will know that these calibrarion salts do not go into solution immediately. So please take other reviews complaining about this aspect of the product with a tempered perspective. The same problem exists with the really expensive units. One can’t bypass natural chemistry principles because of impatience. I am unaware of the availability of replacement calibration solutions as the 3 number standards are specific to the unit and not some industry-wide standard. It shouldn’t be impossible to find some, but calibration solutions do not last in perpetuity.Similarly, there are no calibration solutions or supplied metrics for the other features except for pH. So, we again have to assume that it comes calibrated from the factory and is accurate. I did not have any other way to comparatively test these against known standards either.The watch-style batteries that power the unit should be fairly easy to find for replacement. It would be easier if it used AAA batteries, but in my work experience in labs other similar units I have used had the same style of batteries.As far as using the unit, I like the display and features. I have encountered a minor issue with the meter taking a while to zero in on its final readings. For example, it will say that it has a reading for pH. I have removed the probe, rinsed it with distilled water, wiped with a lint-free paper towel (shout out to Kimwipes), and when I put it back into the solution after to re-measure, the readings will adjust up or down from the number it just gave out. This can happen with especially hot or cold solutions, but this was also experienced on one at room temperature.This is a fairly affordable unit. So, to do a huge comparison test on it alone is not too cost effective. I would rely on it for ballpark figures. It could certainly indicate if your home’s drinking water, pool or hot tub had an obvious issue. I wouldn’t rely on it for production laboratory work where you need fast, verifiable readings within a decimal point.

These instructions are lacking. This is a TDS/EC//PH/Salt/temp meter. No where in the instructions does it say what TDS or EC is. The solution to calibrate these is not provided. There are powders to calibrate for PH but does not explain if you mix the entire packet with water or how much water. There is a warranty but no one to contact in the instructions. There is no manufacturer on the paper work at all. There is no one to contact regarding questions so no customer service.

Surprisingly Accurate After Calibration, with Minor pH Drift

Middle of the road, good when calibrated but needs to be calibrated often
The accuracy of this meter is good provided it has recently been calibrated. The instructions aren’t the best and functionally it works but I cant trust it in the slightest so I find I am always using buffer to ensure it is reading properly. Durably is decent enough but it falls out of calibration so much it is hard to call it rugged. The value is alright, I would not recommend this product and would opt for a more well known trusted brand. The size is nice but if I cant trust it I can only like it so much. I would look elsewhere
