Great squirrel deterrent feeder — well made
I’ve bought three of these and love them! It is an excellent, well made product and a real value compared to other squirrel-deterrent feeders. It really works. I wanted to try out feeding the birds but didn’t want to invest a lot in a feeder. This feeder is mostly metal, so the squirrels can’t chew it or destroy it. Boy, do they try. The mechanism works quite well, and keeps the squirrels mostly out of the feeder. There are a couple enterprising ones that figure out a way to support their weight and foil the mechanism. It doesn’t work for chipmunks. They’re too light weight. I’d recommend putting cayenne pepper in the birdseed and using this feeder to make it about 98% squirrel and chipmunk proof. It is easy to fill. I use a bottle brush to clean it. It is an excellent product and a real value compared to a lot of other squirrel deterring feeders.

Why I don’t give it five stars:I have had this for three days only. The fifth star would only come after confirming durability.My review:Some time ago I decided to put a bird feeder in the patio thinking it would be nice to wake to song birds. Just like in life you find a few free-loaders or opportunistic people, the bird realm also has pigeons. Nasty, cute little buggers. They are big, fat, bullies, and more intelligent than I had suspected (human ignorance at play).Soon, instead of having a bird feeder I had a pigeon feeder. Pigeons are not clean birds (they defecate everywhere, they are pushy, they kick out the smaller birds). And I realized I needed to change my strategy if I wanted to go back to song bird feeding instead of pigeon feeding.Observation led me to see I needed to change my bird feeder. First I had a little wooden house-shaped feeder. Looks cute at the store’s shelf, but not very clean or functional (pigeons made it sway and drop all the seed to the ground, where there would be several other pigeons to enjoy the feast – mental note: pigeons collaborate). Then I purchased a larger (what was I thinking?!) green plastic, round feeder. It worked well for the song birds, and FANTASTIC for the pigeons (they can perch on it and eat directly from the feeder). I was losing the battle. I decided to consult the Oracle of Google.Enter this product.The feeder has a spring which will “close the door” when the weight on the perches is higher than three little birds. I know this is not a scientific measurement, but it works (see the pictures). The feeder works perfect for one, two, and three birds eating at the same time. (Maybe four, but I have not had a time when I see four yet.)Pigeons continue their bully behavior pushing out the smaller birds who are just chilling and eating, but now they face two problems: fat, errr, heavy-boned pigeons can’t even perch (see the picture, they slip) and when they do perch they can’t eat because the door has been closed with their weight.I noticed they could still make it sway and drop feed, therefore I installed a very simple, cheap, and ugly looking bungee cord under it for added tension. This made it much more stable for the smaller birds, too. Some small birds are messy eaters. They throw out to the ground more than they eat, and this continues to provide a smaller amount of food for the pigeons. I am not heartless, after all.So in short, this is (for my purposes) a great song bird feeder. I’ve only used it for three days, and I can only hope it lasts a couple of seasons. Take that, squirrels!
This has been a fantastic feeder as far as beating the pesky squirrels! The only cons are its small size and its price point. I opted for the small version to see if the squirrels were thwarted (they were) before possibility getting a larger version. While we have seen a variety of small and medium sized songbirds at the feeder, the larger birds like cardinals seem to have a bit more trouble with the small perches. The squirrels haven’t gone away completely, they like to look longingly at the feeder and eat what drops on the ground. The birds do empty it quickly though, so I’m filling it every couple of days. But at least I’m feeding birds and not squirrels.

A bit awkward to fill but drives our local squirrels crazy, good job they have one they can get into next to it!

Während die Meisen fröhlich Körner aus der Futterstation picken, kommen Eichhörnchen nicht ran – und die sind hier eine echte Plage. Zwar schauen jetzt auch mal Tauben auf dem Balkon vorbei – aber auch sie haben keine Chance. Tauben und Eichhörnchen bleibt nur, die paar Körner aufzusammeln, die den Meisen herunterfallen. Bei Aufhängen auf dem Balkon hat übrigens die Stange von Kingsyard (Heavy Duty Deck Hook) gute Dienste geleistet.

Have had trouble with squirrels and crows, now all has been resolved and the birds feed happily.
