Explore these really cool facts:

Lizards
There are more than 6,700 species of lizards, a diverse and widespread group of reptiles. Many lizard species live in tropical regions around the world, but others have adapted to different habitats and ecosystems across the globe.

Turtles and Tortoises
Thanks to the fossil record, we know that the first turtle-like reptile species, Eunotosaurus africanus, lived on earth about 250 million years ago. These reptiles survived mass extinctions—and even dinosaurs. Today there are more than 350 species of turtles and tortoises

Crocodiles and Alligators
Crocodiles and alligators are an ancient group of reptiles called crocodilians. They belong to an order called Crocodilia that also includes the alligator-like caimans, from the Americas, and the fish-eating gharials of South Asia. How ancient are these reptiles? The first crocodile-like fossil is almost 250 million years old.

Just right for third grade readers
Our class pet is a chameleon, so I’m always on the lookout for books at a child’s reading level. The pictures are bright, the text is clear, and the paper is sturdy so it will last awhile in a classroom library.
