Nice for testing aquarium water
One of my API master test kit test tubes shattered when I was trying to get the lid off, so I hit Amazon for a replacement. These worked really nicely, and I like the screw top. It’s a little trickier to get on but taking the cap off is actually easier. I didn’t have any issues with the slightly smaller opening. I tested the line marker with a measuring lid and it’s in the right place.

Good replacement for the original API test kit
I broke a few API test tubes and decided to acquire some replacements. The original API test tube is quite expensive when sold separately. I chose this brand and model since they have the 5ml markings and they also have a nice top cap that screws in the tub, avoid spills when shaking the tube. The only downside is that the neck of the tube is narrow, and if one wishes to dry up the tube with a paper towel sheet the narrow neck compresses it a lot and the paper does not properly touch the inside of the tube. But that can be bypassed using another cleaning method. All in all, an affordable replacement to the API original test tubes.

API Freshwater Master Replacement Tubes
One of my API tubes crushed in my fingers trying to remove the cap to clean it. Fortunately I did not get cut. I searched for replacement tubes with screw top caps. I found these and decided to give them a try. These are a great replacement. However these seem to have thinner glass than the API tubes but with the screw top caps it shouldn’t be a problem crushing then in my fingers. The mouth is narrow so care needs to be taken when adding the drops. These may break easily if knocked over. But I’ll take these over the miserable API caps.

These are so nice especially the screw-on top. I broke my last tube pushing the top on and I thought I’d have to buy a whole new test kit wasting the remaining chemicals in the old one. I bought these to do water testing for my aquariums. Very nice tubes!!

Works, but has flaws.
The screw on test tubes do their job, they keep liquids from spilling and leaking when you have to shake the tubes, an upgrade from the standard API ones.However, there are some flaws.1. The opening is too narrow. The opening is much narrower compared to the API ones, this means you’re more likely to miss drops. Cleaning is also a hassle because the water tension combined with the narrow opening stops water from spilling out if you invert the tube, great if you’re using it, not so much when you want to clean it.2. The screw on design is vulnerable to snapping the upper half of the test tube. This has only happened to me with one of the tubes, but if you tighten it too much or with too much force, the test tube will snap. This might have been user error or a fault in the glass, but I’m sure I didn’t apply more force than necessary.Overall, good concept. Could use some improvement.

These vials are the best. Where have they been all my life?! Seriously, the screw caps are just the best. No more leaks while mixing up test vials. Plus the glass is tops. Thicker and much stronger than the stock API vials. The sole drawback is they are slightly necked, which makes it a little bit trickier to get the water and reagents into the vial and can airlock when trying to dump the vials. This is not a big deal at all, though. Use a pipette to get your water sample, give the vial a little shake when you’re dumping it to overcome the airlock, and use API test kits which all have really nice liquid dropper bottles and no fiddly powders and such to deal with. It’s really not that tough to add drops of reagent. Trust me, if you keep fish, you want these vials. The seller, Tililly Concepts, also makes a terrific acrylic vial rack that is a great thing to pair these with if you want the super deluxe setup. One more thing … The product pic makes it look like these have rounded bottoms. This is not the case. They have flat bottoms similar to the stock API vials.
