The Green Slow Feeder is a revolutionary way to slow down the time is takes a dog to eat its meal. This helps to keep the dog mentally stimulated and to promote a safer mealtime regime as a slower eating pace can reduce the risk of bloat, a potentially fatal condition for dogs. Green Slow Feeder is easy to use! Simply scatter the desired amount of wet or dry food across the Green, and the dog will then enjoy the challenge of pushing food out between its many “blades” of grass.

Customers say
Customers find the slow feeder effective at slowing down their dogs’ eating pace, taking several minutes to finish food, with one noting their 60lb pit-bull uses it well. The product keeps dogs entertained and helps prevent choking and spitting up food, with one customer reporting their dog no longer throws up after eating. While the size is perfect for big dogs, some find it too large for Dachshunds, and opinions on cleaning are mixed – some say it cleans easily in the dishwasher while others find it hard to clean.

The only slow feeder that works!
I have a labrador-weimaraner rescue and she has no chill especially when it comes to food. It only takes her a little over 1 minute to finish her food when she eats out of a regular bowl. I’ve tried all sorts of slow feeders but none of them increased her feeding time to 2 minutes. I found this slow feeder at my dog’s daycare and was kind of shocked at how expensive it was (we have the large one) but it has raised my dog’s feeding time to 3 minutes. My dog doesn’t vomit whole kibbles anymore! The key is to make sure that the kibble is distributed evenly on the feeder and not to dump all the kibble in one spot. My dog has chewed on the edges of this slow feeder but the effects are mostly cosmetic and it’s still very intact, even 5 years after purchase. The only thing I don’t like is that you can’t handwash this thing if you want it cleaned well. So I put it on the widest part of the bottom rack of my dishwasher to get it cleaned. Other than that, overall a great product!

The search continues
One reviewer said of this product “Not applicable for all dogs”, let me second and reiterate that opinion. Listed below are the problems I encountered, your experience may vary:1. Your dog will eat slower, at the risk of becoming neurotic. You could just as well spread kibbles all over the lawn. The effect is the same.2. If you currently have a raised feeder, forget it. This is not an actual “Feeding Bowl”. It is way oversized, will slip around and wind up all over the floor.3. If you put it on the floor you will need a mat at least 30″ x 30″ inches to catch the food your dog will pop out of this thing to keep it from going all over the carpet. Of course the mat has to be some sort of smooth, but not too smooth, rubber cause this thing will slide all over the place, there is nothing on the bottom of this feeder except smooth plastic. It’s a floor frisbee.4. If you have more than one dog, I doubt this will work for you. I got this for my Dalmatian. Problem here is that I set it out in the yard, the Dal messes with it for a while (all the time giving me dirty side glances) then he gets tired of trying to get at the food and leaves it for a few minutes. Oh, oh, bad move here comes the Chihuahua and takes ownership and the Dal is now out of luck. The chihuahua, of course has already finished his food (he is a normal eater and can use a standard bowl), and the Chihuahua is more efficient at getting to the food owing to his smaller, pointed snout, so he cleans up what the Dal left after his first pass.So what this feeder has done for me is probably increased the anxiety level in an already semi-neurotic Dalmatian (you know how Dals are), and created a weight problem for my Chihuahua. As I said, I need something for the Dal, but this ain’t it. An expensive mistake and The Search Continues.edited 6/13/14OK. I recant. Fortunately I stuck this in a shed intead of throwing it away. After trying everything else out there, this is the only thing that actually works. What I have to do is feed outside on the concrete patio, place the Northmate on a non-slip rubber mat and lock the Damatian outside and the Chihuahua inside until all the food is consumed. Not the easiest way to feed a dog, but if I want to slow him down, this is the only thing I have found that actually works.

both the cats acted like there wasn’t any food there — complaining and rushing …
5/31/19 Update: Miss Fatty cat passed away a bit more than a year ago following dental surgery. I put the Green away. Recently, my 8 year old dog started putting on some weight, probably because we haven’t been going to the dog park as much. I pulled out the Green and now, after a few weeks, I think I can detect that he’s lost a bit. Like the cats, I free-feed my dog, so it isn’t so much that he guzzles his food, he just eats too much for his activity level. I continue to be very pleased with the function of the Green.3/22/16 Update: This has really worked. My fat cat has lost just a bit of weight and my skinny cat hasn’t. Both cats seem to be eating more frequently, but, as I had hoped, the fat one is a bit lazier and doesn’t spend too much time at it.I bought this for my two cats. One of them is svelte and the other one has a weight problem. I have always free-fed my pets and I really didn’t want to change to a regimental style. I have been switching between regular cat food and light cat food: regular until one starts looking too, too fat and then light until the other one starts looking too skinny. It works okay, but I thought I would give this a try. If the plump one has to work for it, maybe she won’t eat as much. She also isn’t the bright one. I went for the large dog one so that it would always have enough food to last a few days. In other words, I don’t want the cats to go hungry if I forget to feed them or I’m not home for a couple of days. If it didn’t work out at that size, I’d use it for the dog and get the smaller cat one. At first, both the cats acted like there wasn’t any food there — complaining and rushing to their feeding area when I approached. I was worried that maybe they couldn’t get to the food because the spikes are higher than the cat one. But I think the idea is that they can’t dive head first into their food. They have to work for it with their paws and claws. Sure enough, in a couple of days, they had figured it out and no more complaints. I don’t think my cats are so stupid that they’d poke their eye out on one of the spikes. After all, feral cats face much higher challenges getting their food and I haven’t seen any with facial damages from bushes, trash in cans or dumpsters, etc.

This is a brilliant product, well designed and the dogs love it. Eating time is greatly extended. It has even worked with one of my dogs who used to be very reluctant to get out of bed and eat his breakfast – now he’s there – no problem! It works just as well with wet or a mixture of both wet and dry food. Little more difficult if you want to add any tablets, not so easy to hide them. There are a few more considerations before you buy, especially if you have several dogs. These feeders are very big and the dogs need plenty of room to get all round them without getting into each others space – can’t just stick it in a corner. Also they are not ideal if you are in a rush, although you can speed the time up just putting food round the outer edges but this defeats the object slightly. I agree with the comments that cleaning can be bit of a challenge (amazed how many people don’t clean after each use?!) I have found it best to wash promptly before any residue has time to dry on. A good wash in hot soapy water (can do in a bowl, clean one half then flip it round) with the aid of a silicone pastry brush, this is perfect for cleaning round the surface and nodules, Rinse and leave up on their side to drain and dry – job done (a dish drainer is useful if you have more than one to wash). A final point to bear in mind – if your dog has “spaniel type ears” they can get quite dirty and wet, so if you don’t want smelly, matted ears you’ll need to give them a brush at the end of the day (if you don’t already). I consider the aforementioned as minor negatives compared with the pleasure and aid to digestion the dogs gain. I can’t praise the feeder enough!
Impeccable et parfait. Merci –
Très bien pour un labrador gourmand.

UPDATE: It’s been about 6 months and we still LOVE this feeder. We use it twice a day, every day but it is still in perfect condition. Our dog still takes around 10 minutes to finish her meals. We are also happy to report she hasn’t scratched her snout on the hard plastic in the feeding process. She’s VERY food aggressive so I was worried this might happen based on other reviews. It is designed for the dog to use their tongue rather than their snout to push the food around, which I think contributes to her scratch free face. If the dog were to try force its snout between the “blades of grass” it is possible scratches might occur. Our dog fortunately doesn’t do this. This is the best slow-feeder we have found for our dog, who typically scarfs down her dinner in about 5-10 seconds. With this slow feeder, it now takes her upwards of 10 minutes to finished her dinner. It’s extremely well built and sturdy. I have no doubt we will be able to use this for years to come.

Stra consigliato!!
