Cat food reality 101
Itâs frustrating when humans make the decision to feed their cat a certain brand of canned food because they (the human) thinks it tastes good. Do they honestly think cats choose which brand of lizard or rat or pigeon to eat because of flavor? As pet parents a cat âlikingâ a food should be far down on the list of reasons to choose it. Saying you feed your cat something because it âlovesâ it is like saying you feed your two-year old baby nothing but cotton candy meals three times a day because she âlovesâ it.Using rigid guidelines set out for my cats by a veterinarian I choose this brand as one the better ones that meets my petâs dietary needs. It does that well, but not perfectly. Unfortunately it still avoids listing specific numbers for carbohydrates, which should be near the top of a catâs nutritional needs. High carbohydrates negatively impact the blood sugar level of cats and the leading cause of feline diabetes (which is why responsible humans should NEVER feed their cats dry cat kibble). And also unfortunately they like most other brands play loose with the words âgrain freeâ because some of their ingredients in fact are just as poor of a choice for cats as grains.Despite all that, overall they are one of the better options and by the way, a side benefit is that my cats do like it. The only thing that pushes this brand down slightly is they are at the far upper end of the price scale, even when compared to other super-premium canned food blends.

The only wet food Iâve ever used!
Before adopting my little guy I researched high and low for the best quality food for him. Brought him home at 12 weeks, he started off on this brands kitten wet food then he graduated to the adult gravies. Heâs turning 6 this month and is so healthy and absolutely LOVES this brand. Iâve tried him on others and he has no interest! Quality ingredients; that keep my boy happy and healthy. Itâs the only one Iâll purchase!Jiji approved ðââ¬

A customer of 10 years becoming frustrated with Wellness!
I have two cats who have eaten nothing but Wellness wet food for over 10 years now. They were fed Wellness kitten food from 6 weeks old and now refuse to eat anything else but their respective favorite flavors of Wellness. I used to love giving them Wellness as it actually smelled like the protein source written on the can. (The chicken herring really smelled like chicken with herring added, the beef smellled & looked like beef, etc.) The food smelled appetizing, like something I would eat. Through the years we had to change flavors and Wellness products a couple of times when Wellness changed their recipes, but I was always able to substitute a slightly different flavor or product (such as the Healthy Indulgence pouches) and for the most part it was still better than any other cat food on the premium market…that is, until the latest Minced Salmon order from Amazon. I had noticed the change in labeling but hoped the change was purely aesthetic. When I opened the can this time, however, not only did it NOT smell like salmon, it didn’t smell edible! It smelled rotten, with an odd plastic odor underneath! The consistency was different too. The bits of food were an odd grey color and ground up much smaller than usual. I thought it might just be the one can and so I opened another – same nasty smell, color and texture! I opened several cans and to my disgust, all were the same.At this point I thought that perhaps the package from Amazon had been left outside in the sun for too long so I called my husband and had him pick up a few cans from Petco on his way home. He called me from the store to tell me the labeling on the minced salmon cat food had changed; did I still want it? I did. Unfortunately, the cans he had brought home contained the same stinky grey substance. So this was Wellness’ latest change in the recipe. Just to make sure I was not going senile I spooned some into my cat’s bowl anyway. He looked up at me disapprovingly, turned up his nose and walked away…We bought several other flavors (for our other cats) with the “new labeling” that had also undergone a change in consistency, smell and (judging by our cats’ reactions) flavor. I don’t know whether alternative meat sources are being used or if the company has recently changed ownership, but perhaps they are trying to shave costs and maximize profits. This has happened with several “premium” pet food companies lately and it upsets me… I wish we could be given the opportunity to just pay a higher price. Cats are such finicky creatures! I’d rather pay the higher price than spend money buying new foods in order to find another one they’ll accept. I wish I had just fed homemade from the very beginning but unfortunately, my 2 oldest furbabies won’t accept Mama’s home cooking ð³ .So the search for a cat food similar to the old Wellness formula continues… If anyone finds such, please let me know. Sorry so long! Thank you!

Love small cans~ Won’t eat large cans
10.21.25~ Cats like the small cans.Twice in a row, once tuna and once turkey, expected small & got large cans.Tried to use large cans. One sniffed and walked away. This is the same cat who in a small can, would devour the whole thing. The other cat who eats everything, licked the gravy, picked at food and walked away. This only happens with the large cans. Just breaks my heart to waste money and food.Don’t know how~ what should be the same food in any size can~ Isn’t.The bites in the large can are chewy vs small can is tender. Maybe it’s the leftover?Shelter will be happy with the donation.Sharing so if you try, grab a backup so you don’t have to scramble for wet food like I did.

I only feed my cat grain free pet food. Preferably wet canned cat food. My cat (who is finicky) really likes this food and I feel good about giving it to him. No grains to make him overweight. No byproducts to make him sick.

My cat only eats tuna; Wellness minced tuna dinner is the perfect food for him! The cube one seems hard to chew for him. I recommend to buy it from amazon because it is cheaper compared to other stores.
