Aquariums need this! Makes green algae a thing of the past.
Works perfectly! No assembly needed. Be patient if installing during an ongoing algae bloom. Water changes and cleaning are necessary to ensure the growth of green algae is arrested. I used this in a 5 gallon tank and had the algae under control within about 2 weeks. Now it is in use 12 hours a day by using the timer. The water is crystal clear. My tetras are thriving (be sure to use the light shield). Definitely worth the investment. The light can be seen when itâs on by looking sideways at the shield, you can see the glow.

Small size Big result!
Not a big reviewer but this one really worked and worked well. Moved to a new house and 20 gallon freshwater live beaver tank got too much light. In two weeks it turned into green soup. Decided to give this a try and within three days the tank was crystal clear. For the price and small size this canât be beat. Highly recommend.

Safety Precaution
I just got this product. It’s a UV light and everything was intact, so for me the question isn’t “whether it works” but the safety of the device. As aquarium enthusiasts, most people reading this may already know this, but it’s not made abundantly clear at least by my estimation, so let me say this: BY DEFAULT, SHUTTERS SHOULD REMAIN FULLY CLOSED AND THE DEVICE SHOULD BE ON FOR A LIMITED TIME DAILY WHILE IMMERSED IN THE AQUARIUM. This is a UV light, and I am familiar with them for their purposes of sterilization outside of aquariums. They are no joke and can be very dangerous to eyes and skin of animals and people, despite, in this case, being surrounded by water and glass which causes significant attenuation to the UVC, and the fact that this is only 3W. However, unless you are placing the device directly into your tank’s filter (mine is a HOB filter that is too small since I only have a 20 gallon tank) in which case you can open the shutters, the above advice should be kept. Even if you place the device hidden away in the filter, there should be a time limit daily during which it is not turned on. This is because running the UV sterilizer for longer than, say, 6-12 hours causes a risk of oversterilization by killing beneficial microorganisms such as nitrifying bacteria which keep biological balance in the aquarium.Anyway, it’s just a UV light in a rotational shutter that’s submersible and has a timer on it. I fully expect it to work for a while. If not, I will be back with an update.

So far, so good.
I have mine set at 12 hours, and we are about a week past a vacuum job, filter and water change. Usually, I would start seeing algae start to accumulate on the glass by now, but none so far!I have really strong aeration going on, which helps eliminate lots of algae because of the oxygen levels, but the black algae seemed to be unaffected. So far, no black algae to speak of, for the first time in the 5+ years that I have had my tank.I have mine positioned right next to the siphon snorkel, so it catches a nice flow of water. I also have the shutter completely closed on the light, because it has plenty of flow room for the water to be exposed.The fish leave it alone, they pay no attention to it. Let’s see how it is after weeks and months.

12hrs a day still green water
Iâve been running it for 12hrs a day for about 2 weeks .. my water is still green unfortunately .. might try a water change then running it to see if it works better for preventive maintenance

Not sure if it will do the job. Will update in a couple weeks. Just wanted to add though some info. I put mine in my tank as I do’t use a filter it can fit in. Be sure to turn the bottom of the UV Filter to close the gaps where the light shows through. If it works, and it probably will…I’m glad it is available as you can close the gaps and use it directly in the tank, it is SMALL enough in my 10 gallon tank that it doesn’t look horrible. It’s about as big as my sponge filter so if you don’t mind an object in your tank this size it is very cool for a small tank. You can put it in filter but it’s pretty big for a filter…may work for some people with big enough filters I guess. I just wanted to make sure to say that the openings should and can be closed on this filter if you put it in the tank. Hope the water can filter through it enough to work. It seems to work for people as shown in the reviews. In a month I’ll update to post if it is worth the investment.I’ve had other UV filters but they are really big…or else have to clip onto a hang on back flow. There are bare UV bulbs that can easily fit in a filter that are cheaper but feel a bit uneasy to have the bulb without coverage … guess in a filter it’s okay but I would be careful. UV filter light can kill fish andf harm our insight.One thing PLEASE HYGGER: Update your products with magnet attachment instead of suction cups. It would be SO worth it.
