Here are four key points about wild bird feed

Nutritional Variety

Wild bird feed should offer a diverse range of seeds, grains, and nuts to cater to the varied diets of wild birds. Different species have different preferences, so a mix of seeds like sunflower, millet, and nyjer, along with grains like corn and oats, provides essential nutrients for a wide range of birds.

Freshness and Quality

High-quality bird feed should be fresh and free from contaminants or mold. It’s essential to store bird feed in a cool, dry place and use it within a reasonable timeframe to maintain freshness. Look for reputable brands known for their quality and reliability, like Schoen Farms.

Feeder Design

The type of bird feeder used can influence the accessibility of the feed to different bird species. For example, tube feeders with small feeding ports are suitable for smaller birds like finches, while platform feeders accommodate larger birds like cardinals and jays. Choosing the right feeder design can help attract a diverse range of birds to your feeding station.

Seasonal Considerations

Wild bird feeding needs can vary depending on the season. During colder months, birds require higher-calorie foods to maintain their energy levels, so offering foods like suet and black oil sunflower seeds can be beneficial. In the spring and summer, birds may prefer foods high in protein to support breeding and raising young. Adapting your bird feed offerings to seasonal needs can help support bird populations year-round.

    Good product
It appears to be quality seed. Since I don’t eat it myself, I can’t comment on if it tastes good. I add a little to my Cockatiel’s seed, he seems to like it. And because it’s a big bag and he can’t eat it all it’s a nice addition to my outside bird seed. Cardinals like it.

Schoen Farms Seeds Please My Cardinals
The quality of these seeds is first rate. As soon as l put little piles of them on my patio, the cardinals arrive. They sit there and shell one seed after another, with sometimes 8 or 9 birds at a time. The titmice come too, but they just take one seed and fly with it. Such a pleasure to see all of them enjoy these obviously delicious seeds.

    My bird loves it.
My Quaker loves this but I gave 4 stars because it was too much safflower seeds for my baby bird.

    Bird Love
The birds feed on the safflower seeds but squirrels do not! It’s the only bird food I’ve found that squirrels do not go after. There is no waste, no weeds growing under the feeder from unwanted seeds that fall out. Great bird food!

    Good seed
Seed looks good, price good. However, the blackbirds do eat it, I bought it to stop attracting the blackbirds!

My birds are obsessed with these seeds
These seeds are clean with almost no debris in the bag that I received. They are devoured quickly and happily by the birds in my backyard, leaving no mess. A great buy, and I plan to buy more.
