Cardinals Love Sunflower Heart Bird Seed!

Cardinals have a diverse diet. Their beaks are designed to crack seeds open with ease. Their diverse diets are one of the reasons why cardinals have been able to thrive in so many different environments. It’s also why you’re likely to see them visiting backyard bird feeders! They are particularly fond of sunflower heart and chips seeds and safflower seeds. What’s better than sunflower seeds? Hulled no- mess Sunflower seeds they don’t have to crack open!

Grosbeaks Love Sunflower Hearts and Chips!

Grosbeaks, like cardinals, are also members of the cardinal family and share some dietary similarities. They are seed-eaters too. All grosbeaks are primarily seed eaters, with strong, conical beaks designed to crack open tough seeds. They are especially fond of sunflower seeds, both black oil and striped varieties. Grosbeaks are frequent visitors to bird feeders, especially during winter months when natural food sources are limited. They prefer platform feeders or large hopper feeders that can accommodate their size.

Nuthatch Love Hulled Sunflower Chips!

Nuthatches, known for their unique ability to climb down trees headfirst, have a varied diet that adapts to the seasons. They are awesome birds to watch! Although they primarily feed on insects during the breeding season as they need to feed their young, they pivot to seeds during the winter months when insects are scarce and when they eat seeds, they prefer sunflower seeds!

    I was Skeptical at First
As a birder, I wasn’t sure if I dared buy bird seed from a company that showcases an insectivore as the on the label of said seed. But I found the seed is of good quality. It is not unusual to find pieces of hulls in a bags of sunflower hearts, or stems in a bag of whole black oil sunflower seed. But, I have not found an objectionable amount of seed hull pieces in my purchase. I mean purchases as I just ordered my fourth bag. I am still not used to seeing a bluebird on the cover of a bag of seed, and I never will 😁

Birds love it….and alas, so does the doe that visits occasionally
This seed attracts all sorts of birds…cardinals, a blue jay now and then, house finches….but alas, so far has attracted one small doe. We do have squirrels but a slinky added to the shepherds hook deters them. Now to find something that would deter that doe. And yes it is expensive….but the seeds definitely do not sprout when some are tossed from the saucer of the feeder. That alone makes it a time saver from having to pull weeds underneath the feeder!

    Splitting Bags
My birds love this product. However the bags keep coming apart at the seams, spilling seed everywhere. This has happened even in transit. So this is a problem that needs to be addressed.

Rancid seeds birds will not even eat
RANCID BIRD SEED. I ordered shelled sunflower seed twice in 2025, both times seed  so rancid (smelled awful) birds would not eat. Amazon refunded my purchase first time. Have not contacted them again.I feel I should known better than to order again!I first ordered from this company in 2023 and 2024 , the product was fresh and birds loved the treat of shelled sunflower seeds! I trusted this company/Amazon would continue to sell a usable and fresh product.NOT

    No sprouts!
I finally found bird seed that will not cause sprouts beneath our bird feeders! I’ve tried several brands/varieties to no avail. This is a bit pricey, but worth it to me! Birds love it as well.

You will go wrong with this product.
Desert Valley sunflowers seeds seem to keep me birds happy. I can’t seem to keep this on hand, that is how much they love it. Sometimes I have to refill the feeders 1 to 2 times a day.
