Does what itâs supposed to do
Having an active barrel horse means taking care of her joints. Sheâs 14 and there tends to be a little bit of stiffness here and there. Iâve been a SmartPak customer for years so I didnât hesitate when I saw this pop up.The first thing I noticed was the smell. It was like opening a fresh packet of soy sauce. It didnât bother me in the slightest, but itâs definitely a stronger smell to someone with a sensitive nose or a horse whoâd be pickier with their food.My mare will eat anything and everything thatâs placed in front of her, and this was no exception. It took a few days to notice the change. Her gait seemed to be smoother while on this supplement, and less bowing around the barrels too!

Leg up vitamins are great for Senior horses. My horses need joint supplements because they’re both in their twenties and I still ride them quite a bit. They’re both dressage horses and the leg up vitamins are great for keeping them supple and willing to work.

Joint boosting goodness
Iâm sure the weather plays a role in this, but when I saw my senior horses starting to slow down a bit, I knew it was time for an extra boost to their feed. They are on a senior diet, but I really like the idea of more joint supplements.Since using these, I do think it has helped them. One of the perks about this product is there is no sugar in it. That really opens it up to most horses. It has been easy to mix into my horses food and it has gone undetected. Itâs worth adding for a healthy joint boost.

Love SmartPak supplements
I love SmartPak supplements. My horse can be a little bit picky but he consistently eats any SmartPak supplements I give him. This seems like a good basic joint supplement, though I ended up deciding to switch to one of their SmartCombo formulas once I finished this bag.

Smells Terrible â Picky Eaters Warned!
I usually LOVE all of the SmartPak products, but this one was an utter and complete miss for me. The first time I opened the bag I nearly gagged from the smell; and not in a good way. To me, it smells TERRIBLE, like something has soured. Itâs gotten to where I take a deep breath before I even open this bag, quickly scoop it out and drop it in with the rest of my horseâs feed and quickly seal the bag up again.I got this to try with my 18 year old endurance Paso Fino thinking it couldnât hurt; although I WILL note that the âAbout this itemâ literally states that itâs ââ¦a great option for horses in no work and up to light workâ¦â. Currently, that would be his work load level, so this isnât something I would use when we transition back to conditioning and legging up for long distance trails. I also will point out that it does contain MSM which is NOT permitted for use with AERC or NATRC, so this is NOT competition legal for those two organizations (if you plan to use this for your competition horses, youâll want to check any rules governing your sanctioning body).This isnât something I personally plan to continue using for my horse as I didnât notice any changes in him, I cannot tolerate the smell and because it isn’t competition legal. However, if you happen to have a horse who is really only used for light work and theyâre having issues, this just might help them out!

Ideal for light work
I find Smart Pack to be a trustworthy brand and I know they use quality ingredients, an important part of deciding on a supplement for for your horse. Glucosamine from shellfish is higher quality than some other sources. The next step is deciding on a supplement is your horses individual needs and your goals.This is not particularly potent but it is formulated for light work. Just compare the strength of the ingredients to what you think your horse needs to determine if this is a good choice for something you might want to try. Each horse is an individual and they react differently to supplements. Sometimes it’s hard to evaluate and sometimes you can really see a difference.
