Coconut Fiber Mats With Extra Uses
Though sold as liners for reptiles or nests, these coconut fiber mats also work well as a component in mushroom substrate. They’re uniform, easy to cut, and hold up as expected. A versatile, natural material for a variety of projects.

Versatile but Best Suited for Reptiles – Not Ideal for Chicken Nesting Boxes Alone
Purpose of PurchaseI purchased these coconut fiber mats for my chicken nesting boxes, mostly out of curiosity to see how they’d compare to traditional nesting materials.Pros• Customizable: It’s easy to cut and shape to fit boxes or enclosures.• Flexible but Firm: While initially hard, they have a slight give when pressed, almost like a compressed sponge.• Natural Look & Feel: The coconut fiber gives a natural, earthy aesthetic that could work well in terrariums.Considerations• Not Ideal for Chickens: The mats are too firm for chickens to fluff, which is a natural behavior when nesting.• Better as a Liner: These could work under shavings to provide insulation in colder months, but not as a standalone solution.• Thin: They’re on the thinner side, which may limit their effectiveness for cushioning or warmth in a coop.Best Use CaseThese mats seem better suited for reptiles, like geckos, bearded dragons, turtles, or snakes; where a flat, natural-looking, environment is preferred.Final VerdictI rated 4 stars because I don’t feel like these work for chicken nesting boxes. I wouldn’t repurchase these for the nesting boxes unless I was layering them for insulation. However, I would confidently recommend them for reptile enclosures where their texture and cut-to-fit design are far more functional.

    2$ per
It probably works out to about 2$ each, mainly this is a manhours production cost, the fiber itself is hugely abundant, processing it into a packaged product is the cost. I’m fine with this price point, no issue buying them into the future, I know I’m going to be using a lot of medium materials overall. At first blush I had to go back and check the ad to be sure it is for 10 pieces and not 20 – it doesn’t look like it’s going to be difficult to peal one of these apart into 2, such is the case with the 1st 2 I’ve handled. This is an ideal material for all sorts of things beyond hens’ nests, I’m using it in conjunction with my plants and pots – it’s a real good medium to line the bottom of a pot with, covering the holes, and I can see using it as a rooting medium also – in hydroponics and aquaculture. I’ll have use of them in my terrariums, paludariums, etc., in many ways. This is probably one of my favorite new products, even if just new to me, it’s a staple in my planting/gardening kit going forward – that’s for certain.

NOT for reptiles* work well for garden
NOT FOR REPTILESThese should not be used for reptiles such as leopard geckos or bearded dragons. Their toes can get caught in the mat. It also isn’t an appropriate substrate for their natural behaviors either, which includes digging. They would be nearly impossible to fully clean, making them unsuitable for reptiles such as snakes. A bio-active/naturalistic substrate should be the standard of care.GREAT FOR GARDENI got these to make small discs to cover the soil of my tomato starts. My tomatoes seem to always get a soil borne diseases that kills the leaves from the bottom up. Covering the soil helps, but it’s hard to do in the quart containers I start them in. These are easy to cut to size and shape, won’t blow away, and will not take up much space to store.I think these were treated with something. I don’t know what, but there was a slight smell to them, that I don’t sense from the coco coir bricks, or chips. I also have some plant liners made of coco coir, that feel different, more rough. These almost have a waxy nature to them, very slight though. It could just be me, and maybe I’m feeling residue oil from the coconuts.

    Perfect for the nesting boxes
Perfect for my chicken coop when the chicks start laying eggs on. Its soft enough but durable for the chickens to lay on but not tear up.

Great for Plant Covers and DIY Use
I actually use these coconut fiber mats to cover the soil in my potted plants, and they work really well! They give the pots a neat, natural look while still allowing good airflow. The material is easy to cut, so I can trim each mat to fit different pot sizes perfectly. Although they’re made for animals, they’re very versatile for gardening too. The 10-pack offers great value, and I like how tidy and uniform my plant setup looks now. Just wish they were a bit thicker, but overall very satisfied!

    Great for my birds.
I love these nesting pads for my chickens. Soft enough for them to be comfortable, and you can change them out when they get dirty. They do not make a mess like shavings or straw. Love that!
