Introducing Small Pet Select Hemp Hurd Bedding, the ultimate eco-friendly solution for your small pets. This biodegradable animal bedding is crafted from 100% all-natural hemp hurd, providing exceptional absorbency and odor control. Capable of absorbing up to 400% of its weight in moisture, it drastically reduces the frequency of cleaning and helps maintain a fresh environment for your beloved pets. Perfectly suited for rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, and other small animals, as well as chicken coops, this bedding is designed to ensure maximum comfort and health. Unlike regular hemp, which includes the fibrous outer layer of the plant, hemp hurd is derived from the inner core of the hemp stalk. This core is softer and woodier, making it an excellent material for animal bedding. Hemp hurd bedding is a low-dust material, making it an ideal choice for animals with sensitive respiratory systems or respiratory issues. Its soft, warm texture provides a cozy and comfortable surface for your pets to rest on, enhancing their overall well-being. Additionally, the long-lasting nature of hemp hurd bedding means fewer replacements, saving you time and labor costs while maintaining a clean habitat for your animals. Its non-toxic and non-palatable properties ensure the safety of your pets. Moreover, Small Pet Select Hemp Hurd Bedding is fully biodegradable and compostable, making it an environmentally responsible choice. It is versatile enough for use in horse stalls, barns, and various animal cages and litter boxes, such as those for gerbils and ferrets. When the bedding is ready to be changed, it can be added to your compost pile, contributing to a sustainable cycle. Available in a 6.6 lb package, this bedding should be stored in a cool, dry place to maintain its quality. Embrace a greener lifestyle while providing the best care for your pets with Small Pet Select Hemp Hurd Bedding.

Soft, fragrant and dust-free
I’ve used the Small Pet Select Hemp Ultra-Premium Bedding for my guinea pigs, and it is fantastic! The bedding is incredibly soft, with a natural fragrance that’s not overwhelming or smells of chemicals. It produces virtually no dust, making it perfect for pets with sensitive respiratory systems (like my older guinea). It’s also highly absorbent and a little goes a long way, so it’s definitely worth the price. I’ll be buying more!

Works better than expected
I ordered the hemp mulch after reading somewhere that it works great at helping with moisture retention for potted (or in ground) planting. Upon receiving the order, I used it on all of my potted plants outdoors. I figured it would help reduce the need to water. A few weeks after applying the mulch, a few of my pots started growing mushrooms. I guess it must be working well. I have since reduced my watering since the soil is so moist. Also, I purchased a hydrometer to check soil moisture levels so I don’t overwater and make my plants have root rot. Only reason that I gave 4 stars was because of cost. It could be cheaper than it currently is.

Absorbed a lot. Odor-free! Love how biodegradable/eco-friendly/compostable it is!
Normally I am using wood pellets for the litter pans and I either compost it or add them directly to the garden. However, in the wood pellets I noticed that there was sometimes non-wood items in the pellets and the sawdust didn’t break down very well when added directly around plants. So I was ready for another option. I found this hemp hurd rabbit litter and it specifically advertised that it was directly compostable and biodegradable. Looking further into it, it is made of shredded hemp and stated that it was organic. I was really excited about this because I wanted something very absorbent that didn’t have a lot of odor that I could just add directly to the garden and not worry about it breaking down on its own. We foster rescued rabbits as well and so it’s super important that they don’t have an environment with a lot of smells that are confusing to them and that the litter absorbs well as bunnies new to an area can get quite messy and sometimes spill their water bowls or kick things around as they move into a new area.I decided to run a scientific experiment of sorts. I added this litter directly into the litter pan for a pair of does that we rescued. These ladies are already quite used to their area and are pretty clean and use the same spot every time so that I could see how well the litter performed on its own when being used for the intended purpose. I left it in for 2 days. They certainly left a lot of gifts behind for analysis! I attached a video if you have the stomach for it! I am happy to say that it definitely performs better than shavings and it’s on par with wood pellets for absorbency and probably better. You cannot smell anything unless you are at the bottom of the pan and have already emptied the dry spots or there is an abnormal amount of liquid. The absorbency was excellent! Definitely blows, shavings out of the water and now the pellets aren’t looking like the top spot in this area.Another nice thing about this letter is it does fluff up out of the bag. So I only needed about five handfuls for the litter pans that I am using. I put a layer of less than 1 in in each litter pan. I wanted to really test it! I believe one full bag would last about 3 weeks or so if I had to guess at this rate. However, we often get new fosters so it’s possible it will vary.It is very soft. There are no splintery bits in the bag that I received. Because it fluffed up then it is a decent size for my purposes.Value for the money is going to highly depend on your purposes. If you have a smaller pets such as a guinea pig or dwarf bunny, this is going to last a long time. Also, if you value being able to add it directly to the compost or the garden itself and having it break down easily and not add anything toxic or non-biodegradable (such as bits of plastic I’ve found in wood pellets in the past), this would definitely be better. I would say this is at least equal to wood pellets in performance so it will just depend on how your budget is aligned with what your goals are. Wood pellets are likely going to be more affordable by volume but have some drawbacks that this does not have. I am very convinced using it that it will suit my needs better. I also believe it is probably a byproduct of hemp processing as hemp is often made into textiles, rope etc., and that process means there is a lot of the plants leftover that is unsuitable so making it litter out of it is something I like to support/encourage.

Soft, compostable animal litter
Hemp is becoming increasingly available as an animal litter and it’s nice to see more brands developing. This was my favorite brand of hemp bedding that I’ve tried so far. While I don’t find it nearly as soft or absorbent as paper bedding, this bag is soft and absorbent compared to other hemp bedding. The pieces are very small, and therefore easier on my guinea pigs feet. While I don’t feel like it does a great job absorbing, it does a REALLY good job at draining away urine from the surface so that your animals are no longer in contact with it which is important. I think paired with some sort of puppy pad underneath, this would be an ideal setup. When compared to other hemp brands, this one was also the best bang for your buck. It’s a higher quality; the chips are a consistent size and there weren’t any random larger chunks. It also wasn’t dusty at all. The smell still doesn’t really appeal to me. Kind of like sniffing a musty, damp houseplant. But, I guess it’s better than smelling the urine by itself. All beddings have their pros and cons which usually vary between who is using it, but if you’re interested in trying hemp bedding, this is the one I’d go with.

Not what I expected
Does not fluff up at all. Need to use a lot to fill up the small cage for my guinea pig. Does help with the smell, but not worth the price if you have to use soooo much.
