Small World Slate & Stone is proud to offer these beautiful natural slate stones. They are safe for use in your scenery and will not deteriorate in the weather or pet enclosures like resin does. Perfect scale for Aquascaping, these stones are easy to incorporate into your tank. They can also be grouted together in a path or walls. They can be stacked and glued to form fish caves/caverns or benches/seats and broken to create different sizes. We have sorted and washed these stones and offer them in several size ranges from pathway stones to small scale gravel.
NATURAL SLATE – 100% real slate stone will add beauty and realism to your creations. Because these are natural stones, each bag is a mix of stones from 1/4 to 1/2 inches. Product of the USA
PERFECT for creating walkways, benches, steps, archways, caverns, ground cover and much, much more in miniature or fairy gardens, model railways and doll houses.
EXCELLENT for Aquascaping aquariums, terrariums, vivariums and other pet enclosures. These stones naturally hold heat for reptiles or other heat loving pets. They can be glued together with aquarium safe glue to create caves, cliffs and mountain ranges for fish and plants.
BEAUTIFUL for bonsai. Use in home decor in bowls and vases and as ground cover for indoor plants. Perfect size and shape for rock painting. Gives wargaming miniatures natural and realistic scenery.
COLOR – These stones are a natural grey slate that are darker when wet or can be more permanently darkened by using a sealant or clear finish (do not use sealant or finish in pet enclosures or aquariums). Because this is a natural stone, slight color variations including some white quartz or brown stones may be mixed in.

Great, clean material
I’ve ordered this product a number of times in the different size ranges. It’s always well packed, clean and exactly as described. It makes for great basing material for models and minis.

They’re just about perfect, they look fantastic, and they’re incredibly inexpensive
While it might seem ridiculous to pay someone ten bucks for a small bag of much smaller rocks, I consider this a huge bargain. Just for me, some person (or persons) gathered up a bunch of slate, sorted it all out into individual bits by size, bagged the sorted-by-size rocks into handy, re-sealable 5×7 bags, advertised it on the Amazon.com website, and here we are. There are many possible uses, but I use these tiny bits of slate all time, primarily to represent 1/28th scale rocks on the ‘terrain’ I create on the 30mm bases on which I mount finished wargaming and display miniatures. I’ve bought many similar products from other companies (such as the big mini company (and others), hobby shops, online stores specializing in scenery for wargaming and/or model railroading hobbies, etc.). For about the same price as this however, I’ve unfortunately bought the same sized slate from the aforementioned sources, but the total quantity of slate stones from them is just a tiny fraction of what I just received here. The slate bits in this bag will last, at least, ten times longer than even the very largest package I’ve bought before from the other companies. What a deal! As well as this one pound bag of one quarter to one half inch rocks, in the same order, I purchased a one pound bag of the one eighth to one quarter inch slate bits as well. Those were spot on for representing small scale rocks here and there on my bases and scenery, but these, most of which are about twice as large, work very well too. The larger size means one of these alone might be large enough to cover about one third to half of a base entirely (most are this size or smaller), or, in some cases, a narrow piece will reach all the way across it. There aren’t any large enough to fully cover an entire base however. For that, the larger one half to one inch size might be just about there — while the next largest size would mean every piece (hopefully) could cover a base entirely. Rather than add a third (or fourth) pound of even bigger slate pieces to my own collection, the two sizes (and two pounds) already purchased easily should keep me supplied for the rest of my hobbying days! I guesstimate what I just bought (both bags) to be enough to complete approximately: one thousand bases (!); some custom-built scenery and diorama pieces; and maybe even enough left-overs for a small tabletop wargaming board. Not bad at all for twenty bucks total. Recommended.

Works well for gecko cage, and covers a surprising amount of a 20 gallon tank

Quality over quantity?
This is a great selection of stones which I ultimately used for accent in my aquarium. This, along with a couple more bags of the smaller size were just sufficient to get some alright coverage. The layer of decorative substrate is still fairly thin and I expect my corys to mix it into the base sand layer in about a month or so. If you are putting these in succulent or bonsai pots, I’m sure they’ll be sufficient for your needs. In an aquarium, they look great, but you’ll need to get several bags to really make it worth it in the long run.

Great terrarium stone
I bought this for my terrarium and it is just right! The sizes vary just a little, so there are some a little bigger and some stones a little smaller (within the size range that you are purchasing). Perfect for my project
