You donât read the test strip
Iâm not sure how accurate this test is bc my pool store on June 12th said my phosphates were off the chart. Instead of using the Lo Phos Max we bought , we started wasting the water to empty just down to below the skimmer and then refilled the pool. We did this twice. Our pool is around 22,000 gallons. We live in South Carolina and have had tremendous amount of rain FOREVER and it is raining as I write this. The kit arrived today and after using 4 or 5 strips and always getting a 0 reading I went to the website and realized I was reading it wrong. You donât read the test strip, as I have seen many posting their strip results, you read the color of the water in the vile. Knowing that, I tested again and the water in the vile was reading between 0 and 100, a very pale blue, which I am fine with. My chlorine levels are no longer in the red to orange red but now in the high yellow which is coming down. As long as my chlorine readings keep decreasing to the normal range and the phosphates test low I would say the accuracy of this test is good.

Doesn’t detect phosphate
These strips showed no phosphate in my spa water but when I had it tested at a pool store, the water had significant phosphate levels. Unfortunately it was outside the return windows when I figured all of this out. I’d advise not trusting these strips.

Very helpful and easy to use. This is how you avoid an algae infestation.

Pool phosphate-level test, but kind of vague and hard to read
My pool tends to have high phosphates because leaves fall into the pool twice a year. I use phosphate remover when the pool guy tells me to, but it’s also handy to test for it myself so I ordered these strips. For reference, my pool guy reads my phosphate level as 200-300ppb. It’s been as high as 1000ppb, but treating lowers it quickly. I have a 26000 gallon salt-water pool with a chlorine generator and the water is always crystal-clear with little-to-no algae. This kit includes a plastic tube with cap, a pipette to suck up pool water, and 50 test strips. Not sure what the point of the pipette is, as it takes 5 samples to fill the tube — it’s easier just to immerse the tube itself for a sample. It’s also noteworthy that the test strips don’t fit in the tube with the cap on, and that made me concerned that the pads up against the glass might not be “sensing” properly, so I started snipping 1/2″ from the top of each strip to get it to mix properly. The instructions also say not to read until after two minutes. i saw very little change in the test strips, and what I saw looked more brown than blue. While the blue bubbles are easy to read, I’m confused by the white + O O O O O O bubbles on the side of the container and nothing tells me about what these are supposed to indicate. In the photo with two test strips, the top one is my first sample, which is 24 hours old, and the one on the bottom is my second sample, at about 3 minutes. It’s interesting that the 24-hour old test strip does look a bit blue at the 200ppb mark, but the 3 minute-old test strip is brown at the 0 and 100ppb marks.Since 200ppb matches my pool guy’s measurements, I’ll assume that I just have to leave the test strip out for 24 hours to get a proper reading — if that’s how it’s supposed to work. Certainly nothing of interest happens after two minutes and I really don’t understand the nomenclature on the side of the bottle; the instructions on the bottl don’t really clarify anything and there are no separate instructions.
