I am pretty sure we’ve all arrived at the conclusion that nothing is squirrel proof. What does it take, going through maybe 5 or 6 different bird feeders maybe before we realize this. The wiley little rascals are very good problem solvers and if they had opposable thumbs they would rule the the world surpassing us because we don’t have tails. So far, my little rascals have not conquered this bird feeder. I say “my” because they are here to stay. They are part of my outdoor critter family as they cannnot be denied. I feed them ears of corn. I feed them trays of peanuts. I feed the birds seed and suet. The blue jays steal the peanuts from the squirrels. The squirrels steal the bird food and the suet from the birds and the birds well, they get whatever is left. There is nothing sadder in my critter feeding world than to see my woodpeckers back down a tree to their suet cage only to find it empty because the squirrels gobbled it up 15 minutes after I set it up! The squirrels are fat! Each of the dozen of them.This bird feeder, I had little hope for. Same across the board. Many crappy reviews. Many good reviews. I’ll tell you though, it’s a fine, quality bird feeder.Quality build. Very good materials. Strong. Appears to be durable. Well designed.I’ve read reviews that the deterrence mechanism is faulty. Mine works well. I have had a variety of birds from finch size to cow bird size feeding from it. This morning, I saw a squirrel crawled up around it trying to access food but the gates had dropped by it’s weight and it had no access to it. It eventually left but, I am sure will be back probably busy right now devising a rigging system so it can lower itself like a thief in a museum, touching nothing, lowering itself and suspending in mid air to pluck the precious artifact from it’s casing. Time will tell.I am happy with this bird feeder and even when the squirrels master it, I will still be happy with it because my expectations of it being a squirrel deterrent are low. What will be left is a quality bird feeder that gives a good whirl at squirrel deterrence. Who knows, the squirrels may never break the code. I will be back to update for certain if this is so. Today 7/11/25 is Day 2.Fine product! Squirrel deterrence still up in the air. So far, so good.Remember location placement is everything. Feeders have to be, from my experience, more than 10 feet from anything they can jump off of. My best placements hang suspended from a pully system about 5 feet from the tree, about 8 feet up. Child’s play for the squirrels. I just have no accessible larger branches further from the trunk. This particular one is on a shepherds hook right now, next to a tree. They can access it easily jumping from the tree or by climbing the shepherd’s hook. They are on it. But, they have yet to feed from it!Oh, back to write about this feeders GREAT feature. I should have started with this feature because it is so fantastic. The screw on lid is FABULOUS! I’ve never seen this before. I saw complaints in the reviews that it was a lot of work to fill. It’s not a lot of work, but it is a “little” more work than pushing the button and lifting the lid just like the squirrels do on all other bird feeders. There is no way the squirrels can lift this lid and feed from the top like gluttons. Great idea, great design!! THAT right there, as far as deterrence, sets this bird feeder far above all others.Have fun fellow birders!Thank you for this fine product

Best “Squirrel-Proof” I have. Sturdy.
The birds really like this feeder. The squirrels hang off the bottom and the door close. That works great. However a few of the squirrels learned that they could shake it for m the top and seed would fall out. They are cleaver. But it is still the best “squirrel -proof” feeder I have. It is very sturdy.

Bird feeder
Bird feeder is perfect for yards where you want to feed only birds and not squirrels! Heavy, easy to fill with bird food. I suggest either a heavy stand or purchase two so that the weight is evenly distributed on the stand.

Nice feeder with one important issue.
Nice looking feeder with large seed capacity. The only issue is that the fitting securing the top is not very big or heavy duty enough for the weight of this steel feeder and 4-5 pounds of seed. It actually pulled off once and the feeder fell 12 feet to the ground and survived with just a small dent.
